Visiting Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree is great as a day trip or a week long trip. The beauty is never ending!

Visiting Joshua Tree: A 1-Day and 1-Night Itinerary

If you're looking for a unique and beautiful outdoor experience, then Joshua Tree National Park is the perfect destination for you. With its stunning desert landscapes, Joshua trees, and fascinating rock formations, it's no wonder why so many people are captivated by this place!

Here's a casual 2-day and 1-night itinerary for your trip to Joshua Tree:
Day 1

Arrive: The park opens at 8:00 am, so get there early and grab a park pass, they are good for seven days.

Drive around: Take a drive around the park to get a feel for the place and see all the different landscapes. We were surprised at how diverse the scenery could be given that it is all desert land.

Hike: Stretch your legs on one of the park's many trails. Arch Rock, Ryan Mountain, or Lost Horse Mine are all great options.

Sunset: End the day watching the sun set at Keys View. It's one of the highest points in the park and offers a stunning view of the desert.

Night

Camp out: Pitch your tent (or park your car in our case) in one of the park's nine campgrounds. Cozy up by the fire if your site has a fire pit and watch the stars come out. The east side of the park is the darkest and best for stargazing and waiting for the Milky Way. Cottonwood campground is great for this!

Book a spot in advance during the high season as the campsites can go fast. We’re always last minute booking and we have definitely had some close calls. Searching at night for first come sites can be pretty stressful.

Day 2

Sunrise: Wake up early and head to the Cholla Cactus Garden to catch the sunrise over the park. It's such a peaceful area of the park. However, don’t be fooled, the cactus’ are cute but they have ferocious stings!

Rock climb: If you're feeling adventurous, go rock climbing in one of the park's many climbing areas. Just remember to get a permit and all the gear you need.

Farewell: After a day filled with adventure and beauty, it's time to head back home with memories to last a lifetime.

Joshua Tree is a must-visit for anyone looking for a unique outdoor experience. With its stunning views and diverse landscapes, you're guaranteed to have a trip to remember. Just don't forget to bring plenty of water, sunscreen, and a hat to protect yourself from the sun. Happy travels!
